Spring
The countryside was green, but not in bloom.
The wildflowers had their buds not yet displayed.
The morning's air still felt of wintry gloom
And they in semi-dormant stages stayed.
The temperature gained warmth with each new dawn
While plants kept branches reaching t’ward the sky
Just waiting for their time to carry on.
Winter neared it's end, and, spring was drawing nigh.
Then all at once a scrawny spindly sprout
Came breaking through the earths now warming ground
Stretching upward, quickly branching out
Seeking the warmth of sunlight it had found.
And with this sprout’s emergence from the earth
The waiting plants began their cycles too
Their chance had come, time for rebirth,
Spring was here, and, wintertime was through!
